About this Ketubah Original Text Style Reform Egalitarian (Click here to view entire wording) Font Style The font in this piece is an exact copy of the font that was originally hand written by Tami and was especially created for this Ketubah. Design
At the top and bottom of the piece, there is a Star of David with the word "Shalom" inscribed with it. Thus the Ketubah name. Located above the "Bet", which is the first letter of the Ketubah, and weaving through the whole piece, is a bridal canopy embroidered, as it were, with the words "Mazal Tov." The Tree of Life, which symbolizes the Torah, is to be found on the upper left. The centre flame of the Menorah at the bottom is surrounded by the word “shalom” - peace in Hebrew.
There is a goblet with "Lechaim" inscribed upon it in front of the sun. Immediately around the ball of the sun are the words "Kol Sasson V'Kol Simcha, Kol Chatan V'Kol Kala", ("the sound of happiness and the voice of rejoicing; the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride"), which are said during the wedding ceremony beneath the Chupah. The sun is framed by an arch, carrying the words, "Ani l'Dodi v'Dodi Li" ("I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine"). Also upon the arch is a meandering vine bearing the fruit from which the wine is made.
The piece is decorated with lilies. The entire piece is framed by a quotation from the Song of Songs, a traditional lovers' refrain 'Wear me as a seal close to your heart; wear me like a ring upon your hand; for love is as strong as death, no flood can ever quench this love, nor can rivers drown it."
